Having successfully installed our Universal Television Studio Floor System many times for BBC Studioworks, Elgood Flooring were approached to convert Stage 5 at Elstree Film Studios into a Multi-camera studio.
The Elgood floor surface profile supports multi camera pedestal use and the floor loadings associated with a large production studio. In addition, the floor surface is static dissipative and designed to be used with semi-permanent studio floor paints.
The facility provides over 1,000 sq m of space including the new 590 sq m multi camera studio floor.
Having been a Sound Stage in the past, there were layers of paint to remove from the concrete and repairs to make. The preparation was carried out using vacuum contained shotblasting with diamond grinding to clean edges.
The concrete slab varied greatly in level being +/- 40mm. We were tasked with providing our super flat multi camera studio floor before the acoustics, galleries and new lighting were to be fitted. To achieve this, following a detailed levels survey, the studio floor was laid within a levelled frame to ensure flatness up to the edges. Ramps were formed at doors and along the perimeter to ease the transition to the ancillary areas.
The installation of the studio floor, fire lanes and supporting areas took three weeks.
The surrounding areas received our 4mm solvent free Epoxy self-smoother with fine slip resistant finish to provide a smart industrial look. Being hard wearing, easy to clean and maintain, our industrial self-smoother has proved to be very successful across a range of manufacturing industries.
