Condition of Floors: the factory had been used for steel procesing in the past and consequently the concrete floor had been subjected to heavy industrial use. In many places, the wear on the floor had resulted in a rough surface which had exposed aggregate, and at worst had manifested itself in pitting and holes. Large areas of the concrete had been contaminated with oil.
The preparation was executed over a period of three days whilst other contractors were at work. The floor laying commenced on the second day of the preparation stage. The coating was completed within seven days. Two additional days were required for the fitting of line markings, hazard hatching and signs.
Midland Glass planned to relocate their Birmingham operation and the floor was an integral part of the refurbishment programme. Midland Glass selected Elgood to install our Britdura 500 Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Coating.

Needs
A cost effective approach to cleaning, preparing and improving the presentation of the building. Additionally, Midland Glass required site meetings where we presented various options and discussed their concerns.
Preparation
The condition of the concrete varied throughout the building. This necessitated a detailed approach to the preparation of the floor. The various methods included; shotblasting to remove surface soiling and existing coatings; diamond grinding to prepare the edges of the floor along walls and around fitted machinery; hot compressed air treatment in isolated places where the concrete had become badly contaminated with oil.
Floor
The Britdura 500 solvent free Epoxy floor coating was manufactured and installed by Elgood Industrial Flooring Ltd. The floor coating was laid to the floor plan that Midland Glass provided. This included contrasting colours to designate the gangways and production areas, lines, markings for pedestrian walkways, hazard hatching close to where machines were to be positioned and black and yellow hatched areas to highlight particular hazards.
